Common terms used throughout Edithly and these docs.

Attachment

A document, link, video, or other source added to a chat or repository so it can be referenced in conversation and used to generate visuals. See Uploading sources.

Chat

A conversation with Edithly built around one or more sources. Chats can be one-on-one, shared as a group chat, or scoped to a repository.

Credits (visual credits)

The currency Edithly charges for generating AI-powered visuals and images. Your balance is shown in the header next to the lightning-bolt icon. See How credits work.

Edith

Edithly's AI assistant that participates in chats — answering questions, generating visuals, and (in group chats) joining the conversation in manual or smart mode. See Edith AI modes.

Repository

A shared workspace that groups related chats and documents — useful for courses, projects, or team workspaces. Repository owners can manage members, roles, and AI participation. See Create a repository.

Visual

An interactive output generated from your sources or a topic — a Cheatcode, Mindmap, Flashcard set, Presentation, and so on. Generated from the Visuals studio inside any chat. See Visual types and credit costs.

Visuals studio

The panel inside a chat (What would you like to create?) where you pick a visual type, choose what to generate it from, and confirm the credit cost before generating.

MCP (Model Context Protocol)

An open protocol that lets external AI clients — Cursor, Claude Desktop, VS Code, Codex CLI, and others — call Edithly's tools directly from chat to create visuals and images. See Edithly MCP.
