Document chat

Each chat lives at /chat/{session_id} and is your main way of working with a source: ask questions, get summaries, and generate visuals from it.

Layout​

A chat page has three main areas:

  1. Conversation — your messages and the AI's responses
  2. Edithly Visual Studio / document strip — attached sources for this session (and repo-level docs when the chat belongs to a repository)
  3. Edithly Canvas / Your Artifacts — visuals you've generated in this chat

Sending messages​

  • Type in the composer at the bottom and press Enter to send (Shift+Enter for a new line).
  • Use the microphone button for voice input where supported.
  • Attach more files or URLs at any time via drag-and-drop, paste, or the attach control — see Uploading and attaching sources.

Document preview​

Open the document list in the chat header to see every source available in this session. Click one to preview it (PDF, HTML, or markdown depending on the source type).

When a chat belongs to a repository, the list includes documents attached to this chat as well as documents attached directly to the repo. It does not show documents that are only attached to other chats in the same repo.

Ingestion​

After you attach something, it goes through ingestion — parsing and indexing. Wait for this to finish before expecting full-quality answers and visual generations; you'll see progress in the UI and may get a notification when it's done.

Integration shortcuts​

If your chat includes a linked Jira issue, Asana task, or Monday item, shortcut buttons can appear in the Visual Studio to generate context-aware outputs (such as a presentation or audiobook) directly from that integration's content.
